It’s that time of year again where we are slowly starting to transition into the colder nights. Yes, I am saying it; the last days of summer are upon us. We can feel the fall wind starting to creep in. Not ready to give up summer? Neither are we. Here at the Avenue Banquet Hall, we know this time of year can be tricky in planning your menus, colour schemes and decor. It’s that in between season where your food can either reflect fall or summer. Why not both? The best way to still hold onto summer is by including its themes in your desserts!
For those of us not ready to give up those summer days, we’ve included a list of some our favourite desserts that capture the joy of the warmer seasons.
Ice Cream Sandwiches
When I think of summer, I think of those long line ups at Bang Bang Ice Cream or Bakerbots for a gourmet ice cream sandwich. This is a fun dessert and you can even make a station out of it! Guests simply choose which cookie or cookies they want and then a scoop of ice cream is sandwiched in between them. How simple and fun!
Cotton Candy
A Cotton Candy machine is the perfect way to capture the essence of summer. With so many companies to rent from, cotton candy is easy, kid friendly and a deliciously cute treat for your guests at dessert time.
Build Your Own S’mores
Summer nights include circles around campfires, roasting marshmallows and making s’mores. At our Vaughan and Toronto banquet hall, we’ve created our own s’mores station where guests roast a marshmallow over miniature flames, and our staff helps to add chocolate and graham crackers to make the perfect s’more.
Ice Pops
A new spin on the good old fashioned Popsicle. These can be easy DIY projects with pre made moulds, juice and fresh fruit. You can even rent a frozen display case to house these goodies. These decadent treats can be easily passed around the dance floor as a treat to cool off with.
Rent an Ice Cream Truck
I scream, you scream, we all scream for ice cream! What screams summer than an ice cream truck? Renting an ice cream truck is super easy and will have your guests joyfully exiting the hall and lining up for some soft serve. You can park it right outside your venue for an hour or two during dessert time.
Snow Cones
Frozen shaved ice and sugary, sweet syrup? Yum! These small cold puffs are the perfect reminder of summer. You can mix up traditional flavours by making your own syrups are even adding alcohol.
