Wearing a Colourful Wedding Gown to your Wedding

A really interesting question came across our desk this week at our Toronto banquet hall. A bride was wondering during her wedding planning, if it was seen as distasteful or tacky not to wear white at her own wedding. White may be a traditional colour for a wedding dress, but it is not necessarily a must have. Why do brides wear white you may ask? The tradition was actually started in 1840 by Queen Victoria from her iconic white wedding gown. This was quite a rebellious decision at the time as most royal wedding colours were silver, blue or yellow. Many editorials will note that wearing a white wedding dress was a symbolization of purity, but according to some historians, Queen Victoria wore the white dress as a political statement to represent luxury and cleanliness, as it would be hard to keep clean and almost impractical to wear to another occasion.

After being a wedding planner in the business for almost three decades, we can say that we have seen every colour, size and shape of wedding dress. If you are looking for something a little different than just your traditional white wedding dress then opt in for some colour! In this wedding blog we show you some gorgeous wedding gown inspirations that will help you see that white isn’t your only option.

Pale Pink

If you are venturing away from the idea of a white wedding gown, then a good place to start would be a pale pink. Pale pink can still give the allusion of white but allows you to have a hint of colour to your dress.
